| Biographie de : King Crimson |
King Crimson est né le 13 janvier 1969 sous l’impulsion d’un homme qui restera durant toute la carrière du groupe le seul maître à bord : Robert Fripp.
La première formation est constituée de Fripp, McDonald, Greg Lake, Michael Giles et Pete Sinfield. Premier coup d’éclat à Hyde Park en 1969 où King Crimson vole la vedette en faisant la première partie des Rolling Stones. Sort la même année leur premier album qui deviendra très vite culte : In The Court Of King Crimson.
Etant appellés parfois « les nouveaux Beatles », King Crimson va les 30 années suivantes expérimenter et produire des albums qui resteront pour la plupart dans les anales du rock tels Lizard (1970), Island (1971). Le groupe verra régulièrement sa formation évoluer avec notamment les venues de musiciens tels que Keith Tippet, Boz Burrell (Bad Company), Ian Wallace (Dylan/Don Henley), John Wetton (Family) ou encore Bill Bruford (Yes/Genesis).
L’album Red (1974) marque un premier tournant dans la longue carrière de King Crimson. Après cet album, Fripp déclare «L’aventure King Crimson est terminée pour toujours». Il commence alors à travailler sur des projets solos et collabore avec des artistes comme Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie…Pourtant, 7 ans plus tard, King Crimson est reconstruit avec Belew (Zappa/Bowie/Talking Heads), Levin (Paul Simon/Lou Reed/John Lennon/Peter Gabriel) et Bruford. De cette collaboration sortira des albums tels Discipline (1981), Beat (1982) ou encore Three Of A Perfect Pair (1984).
Après quelques déboires avec la maison de disque, Fripp monte son propre label. La formation est maintenant constituée de Fripp, Belew, Gunn et Mastelotto. Les albums continueront à sortir, de vroooom (1994) au petit dernier The Power To Believe (2003), proposant toujours une musique personnelle et inspirée.
