| Biographie de : Whitesnake |
Whitesnake est un groupe de rock britannique, qui a surtout été actif dans les années 1980. Son style est apparenté au hard rock pour les premiers albums, puis glisse vers le heavy metal. Le groupe a été fondé par David Coverdale, ancien chanteur de Deep Purple, et a principalement connu le succès en Europe et au Japon.
Durant leurs premières années, leur musique était un hard-rock orienté vers le blues. Les membres incluaient également Jon Lord, Ian Paice de Deep Purple ainsi que Bernie Marsden et Micky Moody.
Après des changements importants dans la composition du groupe, Whitesnake sort en 1984 Slide it in, qui sera album de platine. Whitesnake 1987 sera également un énorme succès, notamment avec la ballade Is this love et le morceau Here I go again.
Le groupe se reforme en 1989 pour l'album Slip of the Tongue, où apparaît le talentueux guitariste Steve Vai, mais ce ne sera pas un grand succès commercial ; il est cette année-là en tête d'affiche pour le festival Monsters of Rock. Après une compilation éditée en 1990, le groupe reste inactif jusqu'en 1997, année de sortie de l'album Restless Heart.
En 2003 Whitesnake s'est réuni pour une tournée commémorative de ses 25 ans d'existence. Le groupe se réunit de nouveau en 2006 pour une grosse tournée européenne, passant notamment par Toulouse où ils font salle comble, préparant un nouvel album pour 2007.
